The "Gebäudeversicherungsanstalt des Kantons St. Gallen" (GVA) was founded in 1807 as the "Kontonale Brandversicherungsanstalt". It has the statutory task of insuring all properties in this canton. Furthermore, GVA promotes measure for the prevention, reduction and abatement of damage caused by fire and acts of God.

GVA is run in the same way as a private company. The state neither makes a contribution nor does it provide deficit cover.

The main focus of the business of GVA is the insurance of approx. 178,000 private and public properties in the canton St. Gallen. The sum insured amounts to approx. 113 billion Swiss francs.

In view of the approx. 60,000 changes to the dataset each year, GVA wanted a software which only enters changed data once and then makes it directly available to all other users. Furthermore, the new insurance software should permit the instant electronic processing of this data and provide a quick overview of the current state of the respective subsystems.

A decision was made for the software ALICE on the basis of SAP and, therefore, against individual programming. The entire dataset was successfully migrated to the modern standard solution.
