The "Gebäudeversicherung Bern" (GVB) was founded in 1807 and is a public company. It is run according to the principles of a private company. GVB insures all properties in the canton against damage caused by fire and acts of God; to a certain extent, the company also insures against damages caused by earthquakes, terrorism and unrest. For approx. 50 years, GVB has also been supervising the issues of fire safety.
At its headquarters in Ittigen, GVB employs more than 100 staff. Additionally, in all administrative districts, approx. 120 evaluation experts and approx. 180 further experts, such as experts on fire protection, lightening protection officers and fire service inspectors. GVB insures approx. 376,000 properties with an actuarial value of approx. 273 billion Swiss francs.
GVB implemented the ALICE portfolio management system on the basis of SAP in 2000.
In order to enable a more efficient administration of the fire protection tasks and fire protection measures in the canton, the property information was enhanced by a fire protection application in the first half of 2002. After its implementation, the existing data was migrated from the legacy system to ALICE. This procedure enabled GVB to finally replace the old host system.
